- Subjects:
- General Awareness: 20 questions (20 marks)
- General Intelligence & Reasoning: 20 questions (20 marks)
- Numerical Ability: 10 questions (10 marks)
- Road Sense, Vehicle Maintenance & Traffic Rules: 50 questions (50 marks)
Marking Scheme:
- Correct Answer: +1 mark each
- Wrong Answer: -0.25 marks (negative marking)
Syllabus Overview
General Awareness:
- Current events, history, geography, polity, economy, and science
- Focus on news, important national and international issues, and general topics
Numerical Ability:
- Number systems, arithmetic (fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, averages)
- Problems on time and work, profit & loss, discounts, mensuration, and time-distance-speed calculations
Reasoning:
- Verbal reasoning topics like analogies, coding-decoding, and syllogisms
- Non-verbal reasoning topics such as pattern recognition and figure classification
Road Sense & Vehicle Knowledge:
- Basics of road safety, traffic rules, and signals
- Vehicle maintenance (e.g., tire pressure, battery checks, oil levels)
- Environmental issues related to vehicles (e.g., pollution from petrol, diesel, or CNG vehicles)
Physical Standards and Endurance Test
Physical Standards (for eligibility):
- For Males:
- Minimum height: 170 cm (with relaxation for hill area residents, ST, etc.)
- Chest measurement: 81-85 cm (with a minimum expansion of 4 cm; relaxations apply for certain categories)
- For Females:
- Minimum height: 157 cm (relaxations for hill area residents and SC/ST candidates; daughters of police personnel may have a lower height requirement)
Physical Endurance Test (PET) for Drivers:
- For Males:
- Running 1600 meters: Up to 30 years – 6 minutes; 30-40 years – 7 minutes; above 40 – 8 minutes
- Long jump and high jump standards vary by age group
- For Females:
- Running 1600 meters: Up to 30 years – 8 minutes; 30-40 years – 9 minutes; above 40 – 10 minutes
- Long jump and high jump standards are specified similarly
Trade Test (Practical Test) Details
The trade test is a qualifying exam to assess practical driving and related skills. It is divided into parts:
- Driving Test (Light Motor Vehicle):
- Forward driving, backward driving, and parking
- Total marks: 50; minimum qualifying marks: 25
- Driving Test (Heavy Motor Vehicle):
- Similar structure to the light vehicle test; total marks: 50; minimum qualifying marks: 25
- Traffic and Road Knowledge:
- Questions on traffic signs, basic driving rules, and route reading
- Total marks: 25; minimum qualifying marks: 12.5
- Vehicle Maintenance:
- Questions on tire pressure, battery care, oil type and quantity, coolant, etc.
- Total marks: 25; minimum qualifying marks: 12.5
Candidates must meet the minimum marks in each section to qualify for further stages. The trade test is only qualifying and does not count toward the final merit list.
