SSC CHSL 2025 Exam Guide
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) holds the Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) exam every year to hire candidates who have passed 10+2.
This exam fills posts like Lower Division Clerk (LDC), Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA), and Data Entry Operator (DEO) in various government departments.

SSC CHSL 2025 Notification
- Release Date: The official notification will be out on 27th May 2025 on ssc.gov.in.
- Vacancies: The exact number of vacancies will be announced in the notification. Last year, there were 3712 vacancies.
- Posts: The exam is for positions such as LDC, JSA, and DEO.
- Application Dates: Applications will be accepted from 27th May 2025 to 25th June 2025. Fee payment should be completed by 26th June 2025.
- Exam Date: The Tier 1 exam is expected to be held in July-August 2025.
Eligibility Criteria
- Nationality: Candidates must be citizens of India, or meet certain criteria for subjects of Nepal, Bhutan, or persons of Indian origin.
- Educational Qualification: Applicants must be 12th pass from a recognized board. For some DEO posts (in certain ministries), candidates must have studied science with Mathematics.
- Age Limit: Candidates must be between 18 and 27 years old. Specific age relaxations apply for reserved categories (e.g., SC/ST, OBC, PwD, etc.).
SSC CHSL Exam Pattern
The exam is held in two stages (Tiers):
- Tier 1 (Online):
- Format: Objective-type exam
- Sections:
- General Intelligence & Reasoning: 25 questions (50 marks)
- General Awareness: 25 questions (50 marks)
- Quantitative Aptitude (Basic Arithmetic Skills): 25 questions (50 marks)
- English Language (Basic Knowledge): 25 questions (50 marks)
- Total: 100 questions, 200 marks, and 60 minutes duration (80 minutes for candidates eligible for scribe)
- Negative Marking: 0.5 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer.
- Tier 2:
- This stage includes a computer-based test plus a skill/typing test.

SSC CHSL Syllabus Overview
The syllabus for Tier 1 covers:
- General Intelligence & Reasoning: Questions on puzzles, analogies, coding-decoding, series, etc.
- General Awareness: Current events, basic history, geography, economics, polity, and science.

- English Language: Topics such as grammar, vocabulary, sentence correction, comprehension, and cloze tests.

- Register or Log In: New users should complete the one-time registration to get a username and password.
- Fill Out the Application Form: Enter your personal, educational, and contact details.
- Upload Documents: Upload a recent photograph, signature, and required certificates.
- Pay the Fee: General candidates must pay Rs. 100, while female and reserved category candidates are exempt.
- Submit the Form: Review and submit your application, then download a copy for your records.
Selection Process
- Tier 1 Exam: Qualifying computer-based test.
- Tier 2 Exam: Includes a further computer-based test with a skill/typing test.
- Final Result: Candidates who clear both tiers will be shortlisted based on their overall performance.

- The pay scale for SSC CHSL posts (such as LDC, JSA, and DEO) is set as per government rules and has been updated after the 7th Pay Commission.
